Planning for a purchase

So, seeing as I keep falling for houses I filled out two online forms to be pre-approved for a mortgage. I figured it would be better to know then to keep guessing.

The first seemed pretty strait forward and simple. Which I liked right until after I submitted it. I was given a nice happy message that they would be contacting me for more info. This is not what I wanted and I really would have like to have known before hand. At the very least they could have had the decency to ask me if I could be contacted during work hours. Unless they actually offer me something insanely good I don't for see myself using this company.

The second was a much better experience. They had a better series of questions to answer which included 'living at home' as an option. While they didn't say if they would only contact me via e-mail, they did imply that it would either be e-mail or phone. Which is nice after the earlier shock. So far a better experience right of the bat.

So, now I just have to wait and see. I figure that right now only checking with two companies for pre-approval will answer weather or not I can get a mortgage and if it is worth shopping around. Considering I am a tad bit lazy... I would really prefer to just stick with one group that is polite to me. Customer service is a big thing to me and a good way to keep me as a customer.

Also, just to point out, one house I like is 3,213 sq ft and the other is 864 sq ft. An insane difference in size but I love them both.

For the love of a house

Once again I have found myself in love with a house. This wouldn't be so bad if I wasn't head over heels for it. Sadly it is so me.

Some of my friends think I should look into a 203k loan. I have and I know it is not the right thing for me. It has a lot of cheap mixed into it that I don't want to deal with. Way to much wasted money.

I am going to look at my finances again to see if there might be a chance for a small mortgage in my future. Who knows? I think I have a better chance at that then getting the internet to give me the $50,000 for the house. :3

The first lesson in searching for a house...

The first lesson in searching for a house, big or tiny, would be to
not start until you have your down payment saved up and you are
pre-approved for a house loan.

Trust me on this. I keep breaking my heart by looking at homes,
falling in love and then looking at my budget and down payment
account. I know that I still need to wait at least 3-4 years before I
can buy a house, but my heart refuses to understand this.

Be aware that you will have your heart broken many times during your
search for the perfect house. Be it by funds, location, being out bid
or a slew of other possible things.

Just remember that it is not the end of the world and you will find
your dream home. It might take more work to find it to buy or to find
it in the house you do buy. But it is there.

So... Did I mention that I fell in love with a house? Did I also
mention that it is painfully affordable yet also painfully out of
reach? I seem to do this to myself about once a month and I will keep
doing this to myself because one day I will be buying the house that I
fall in love with last.

The first post about the rough plan

Welcome to the Not So Tiny House blog. While I am intrested in the tiny house movement I am not so sure that a tiny house is right for me. However I do like the a lot of the ideas and concepts that suround, influence and encourage the tiny house movment.

I have been looking into owning a house for the three years and the tiny house movment for the last year and a half. This was just before the fall of the econimy and before I did a through look at my buget.

Fortunatly it works out best that I will not be purchasing a house (or land for a house) until around 2016 or 2017. Gotta love that whole down payment deal and I would like to have the best advantages that I can get.

I am going to be posting about my plans and the things I find in my search for the perfict and flexable plan. There is a lot out there that is both horrifying and amazing.

I think who ever said taking care of a house was the hardest part of owning one had it easy.
